Stick Victorians tend to be grandiose in exterior cladding, with a mish-mash of directions and types of shingles and siding. The overall effect is extremely pleasing. Charles Eastlake was a noted English architect whose aesthetic and use of wood decoration was so inherent to the style that is often referred to as Eastlake or Eastlake Stick. The typically sharp roof angles of Stick Victorians’ roofs stand in contrast to the rather shallow roof-lines of many Chicago homes. There is often a center window on the second floor that curves into the face of the building, a feature quite unique to Victorian homes, and in particular Stick Victorians.
